Each winter the club competes in the Thames Valley Winter League. This is a series of 7 cross-country races, traditionally starting with the Datchet Dashers fixture at Etonon Remembrance Sunday and finishing in late January.
The league is contested by 15 clubs from in and around the ThamesValley and fields normally total 250-350 runners. The races are team events, a club’s team consisting of 6 men (including at least 2 vets) and 3 ladies (including at least 1 vet). The men’s and ladies’ races are scored separately and then combined to produce the team score. In order to score for the team it is mandatory to wear club kit. Each event is over about 5 miles.
Remember, everyone’s contribution counts as even if you are not scoring for our team you may be finishing ahead of runners who are scoring for their team(s) thereby pushing them down the finishing order.
These are really social and friendly as well as competitive events and refreshments (always very good) are laid on by the host club after the event, so why not turn out and give it a go.
